Identifying the Silver Linings
Conference Overview
Now more than ever the forest and wood products industry needs to explore ways to move out of the commodity products trap. Long term international trend lines of products like lumber and wood pulp are heading downward, and unless you own a large scaled and internationally competitive operation your future is limited.

One way ahead for the NZ industry is to differentiate it’s product offer and one way to do this is through collaboration and/or differentiation.

Much differentiation comes through taking a different approach and moving up the value added curve.

To fend off the “China” jugger-naught manufacturing an advanced economy like NZ is going to have to very quickly innovate and differentiate, if it is to survive.

Innovation is not just doing good fundamental research, it also entails commercialisation – translating the idea into something the market wants.

If innovation and the drive to differentiate aren’t part of your business plan, then come to this conference and learn how to make this happen.

You will hear of examples of companies that have successfully made the transition from just one-of-the pack to niche manufacturer. You will also hear about how northern hemisphere wood manufacturers have developed successful construction systems, which are taking Europe by storm. There is no reason why these systems cannot be replicated in the southern hemisphere, or in NZ for that matter and in the process potentially see our wood products market double.
