NZ Pine User Guide Print E-mail
The New Zealand Pine User Guide outlines suitability and versatility of New Zealand pine for a wide range of end uses.

Plantation grown New Zealand pine is a light coloured, medium density softwood with a moderately even texture that produces sawn lumber with excellent machining properties. The even texture and relatively small density variations across the grain in New Zealand pine provide excellent finishing properties, uniform acceptance of decorative stains and good paint retention.

New Zealand pine sawn lumber is a versatile structural building material which is well suited to the 2x4 building system. It is used equally successfully in larger buildings as glue-laminated lumber and engineered wood products such as “I” beams.

New Zealand Pine is also being successfully used for a wide range of appearance grade applications, ranging from interior fittings and fixtures (windows, doors, frames and jambs, mouldings, stairs, cabinetry and bench tops), exterior building products (fascia, weatherboards, handrails, balustrades and door jambs) and furniture and furniture components.

The increasing availability of plantation-grown pine has enabled the New Zealand forest industry to expand its production of semi-processed and fully finished products for export.
