New Zealand Pine dimensional lumber based on a variety of international grades, with a particular focus on

• Lumber for furthur remanufacture, e.g. Random Width for USA, Cuttings grades for Asia.
• Wide framing, e.g. F7 for Australia

PLANT

NZ$50 million was invested in 1998 on upgrading the plant allowing an annual output of 200,00m3 on a two shift basis.

The latest in computer technology allows for non-standard grades and sizes to be cut, thus allowing Pan Pac the flexibility required to supply to today's changing environment.

COMMENT

Pan Pac was formed in 1971 to build and operate a combined sawmill and pulpmill at Whirinaki, Napier. The two Japanese partners, Oji Paper Co Ltd and Nippon Paper Industries have purchased New Zealand Pine forest in the area to guarantee sustainable wood fibre. These forest are sustainably managed.

85,000m3 of lumber production is corewood products for the Japan packaging market, and 115,000m3 is dimensional lumber for general markets in a kiln-dried and/or surfaced form.
