|
Monday, 08 February 2010 |
PMA has established, alongside AsureQuality, a quality assurance mark for all Fingerjointed and laminated product heading into the Australian market. Only those companies that are audited and certified by AsureQuality will be able to use the mark. AsureQuality are in turn accredited by JAS-ANZ, so this QA scheme is truly an independent, third party accredited scheme. Those companies able to use the mark, nine so far, will contribute towards a marketing promotional scheme, promoting the benefits of this quality assured product to Australian builders and timber merchants.

NZ Wood for a better World |
|
Friday, 19 June 2009 |
Wood is a natural, renewable material that can help tackle climate change. Growing trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store the carbon so efficently that about half the dry weight of a tree is carbon. This carbon remains 'locked up' (or sequestered) for the life of the wood, even when it's used for building products or furniture - for example, 1 tonne of wood in every building contains nearly 0.5 tonnes of carbon.
- Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a greenhouse gas that makes a major contribution to climate change.
- Trees absorb CO2 and, powered by sunlight in a process known as photosynthesis, use the carbon to build the structure of the tree.
- On average, carbon accounts for nearly 50 per cent of the mass of every wood product.
- For every tonne of wood produced, 1.8 tonnes of CO2 is taken from the atmosphere.
