Year of International Forests
The UN General Assembly has designated 2011 as the International Year of Forests, with the theme "Forests for People". The objective for the year is to raise public awareness of the importance of forests and forestry. The New Zealand IYF Coordinating Committee (representatives from MAF, FOA, NZIF and WPA) will be interested in working with your organisation in celebrating the IYF.
A programme of activities is being developed and we would like to invite you to contribute to it. Among the events we are considering there is the:
- Launch of the International Year of Forests: in March 2011
- The 2011 ANZIF Conference is an IYF event. ‘Pacific Forestry – Growing a Forestry Future’ is a major international conference being run by the NZIF and the Institute of Foresters of Australia at Sky City, Auckland from 2-5 May 2011. More details at http://www.anzifconference.co.nz/
- We are exploring the possibility of hosting an international speaker to NZ
- Participation in the NZ Forest Industries Expo 2011 in Rotorua
- IYF Banners are being commissioned for use by any organisation running an IYF function, or wishing to promote the IYF at a forestry related function. (Contact FOA to arrange banner use).
